2010 Tamar Ridge Devils Corner Pinot Noir

Tasmania

Tamar Ridge Devil's Corner

Pinot Noir is such a great autumn wine. The robe of a pinot is lighter and brighter than other red wines, reflecting the softer light of the autumn sun, while the aromas and flavours combine the memories of summer’s sun-ripened bright tangy red berries, with the savouriness of autumnal drying leaves and those elusive wild mushrooms that start to spring up in their hidden places in the countryside.

This Tasmanian pinot is a delightful illustration of this, with a vibrant, translucent ruby hue. On the nose, aromas of red cherries, ripe raspberries and a touch of strawberry combine with the autumnal forestry notes we like to see from this variety. Tangy and slightly tart on the palate, the fruit is red and refreshing, with fine tannins that balance the sweet fruit and ally with the savoury spice that finishes the wine.

As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, this fresh, echo of summer is a wonderful match to autumn flavours of slow cooked duck legs from the wood fired oven, chestnuts roasted fresh from the tree, or a simple roast chook with all the trimmings.
