Some Young Punks – Monsters, Monsters Attack!
2009 Riesling

Clare Valley, South Australia

Some Young Punks

Too often, wacky packaging hopes to distract consumers from a less than fabulous product, but this is not the case with this fabulous Riesling. ‘Some Young Punks’ – Col McBride, Jen Gardner and Nic Bourke – have a simple mission statement. “We wanted to […] make exceptional wine with small estate charm.” They also want their wines to grab our attention and do so admirably with playful and non-conventional labelling.

Their original Pulp Series, features raunchy names and alluring sirens on the labels. This Riesling is part of the ‘Trixie and Tessa Love Trilogy’, a fictional comic series dreamed up by the Punks and illustrated by Asaf Hanuka. The Tn’T Series is visually arresting and the label captures the imagination as does the wine itself.

Not your average Clare Riesling, at 10.2% alcohol, this delicate yet concentrated wine shows a pretty floral nose, with lime and peach fruit and a touch of minerality. On the palate, citrus and stone fruit balance well with tangy acidity and a splash of residual sweetness. The perfect wine to drink chilled on the porch in the final warm days of early autumn and a delightful match to spicy foods such as a Thai red curry, or salt and pepper squid.
