2005 Shelmerdine Merlot
Heathcote

It is with great anticipation that I take a sip of a Shelmerdine wine as they appeal to my academic interest in wine. Their wines command one’s full attention, rather than being wines to quaff without notice. Their newly released Heathcote Merlot from the 2005 vintage is well worth seeking out. It is plush, plummy and opulent with a fine layer of gently drying tannin on the finish. It has generous mid-palate weight that so many Merlots promise yet so few deliver. Look out for the stylish and classy label adorned with a pair of Helmeted Honey Eaters.
Available from fine wine stores or order direct from the winery.
Price: $27.00
