2005 Mt Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz

Grampians, Victoria

Mt Langi Ghiran

Dan Buckle is a very talented young winemaker – one of the finalists this year for the V-Know Young Guns of wine award.

Originally from the Mornington Peninsula, he spent some time in Bordeaux, and in Burgundy and is now at Mount Langi Ghiran making, amongst other things, this delicious Shiraz! He gets a bit of help from the vineyard – old vines, and granite soil produces intensely peppery and juicy fruit – and he does a great job of caretaker (‘not stuffing it up’) in the winery.

So, the wine. It is deep purple in colour with a lusciously fragrant nose of black, red and blue berry fruit, supported by the obligatory black pepper spice. On the palate it offers all the juicy fruit you could want, with a silky mid-palate, coffee and spice complexity and lovely firm yet velvety tannins. The finish lingers in a truly satisfying way. Beware when sharing it with a friend or loved one – it slips down so easily, you’ll wish you’ bought a second bottle!
