2006 Lake Breeze Bernoota Shiraz Cabernet
Langhorne Creek, South Australia

Lake Breeze is the Follett family winery in Langhorne Creek, a property that has been in the family since the 1850s. The Lake Breeze winery produces a wide range of wines from a Moscato to a Tawny Port. There is also an entry level tier of wines under the Bullant label and wines from Kangaroo Island under the False Cape label.
The already much awarded Lake Breeze ‘Bernoota’ is their flagship wine named after the vineyard’s homestead and made from the best of the fruit from dry grown old vines. This wine, a blend of 60% Shiraz and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, has spent 20 months in American and French oak.
The still youthful Bernoota 2006 has a spicy blackberry nose and a palate with lovely complex overtones of chocolate, pepper and vanilla.
Ten months of bottle maturation before release has further integrated the tannins and alcohol giving a nice smooth wine ready to drink now but with enough concentration and complexity to cellar for a further 5+ years.
This wine would just as well suit a Sunday roast as it would an Autumnal feast of roast venison.
A wine delivering excellent quality for $22.
