2007 Costa San Vincenzo Sangiovese

McLaren Vale, South Australia

Costa San Vincenzo

Here is the perfect red for your next Sunday BBQ or to take away to the beach this summer. An Aussie take on a Mediterranean style, this is juicy cherry fruited Sangiovese at its brightest, most honest; showing simply extreme drinkability. The label is all playful summer stripes and this sense of fun is also seen in the name – at first glance you might take it for an Italian wine, but on close reading we discover it is a South Australian wine, named for the Gulf of St Vincent, the stretch of water off the Fleurieu Peninsula, where we find the wonderful McLaren Vale.

Not burdened by extracted tannins or evident oak, this wine is simply a deep purple, gulpable wine, with just the right balance of sour cherry, raspberry and a touch of charry meat that makes you crave another char grilled chop, sausage or Christmas ham sandwich with Dijon mustard! And it won’t mind if you put it in the fridge for half an hour on a hot day to bring it to the perfect ‘cellar’ temperature!
