2010 Cape Jaffa La Luna Rosé de Syrah

On the occasional hot evenings of this very unseasonal summer, I have found myself craving something pink, dry, crisp and refreshing. Rosé is a wine style much enjoyed in the warm climes of southern France, Spain and Italy, but one that has suffered much abuse and misunderstanding in this country – sometimes with good reason.
Happily today there are many local producers who understand the joy and pleasure a good chilled pink wine can bring to the table.
Cape Jaffa, on South Australia’s Limestone Coast is a fully certified biodynamic vineyard and has produced delicious reds and whites for years, but this is the first time I have come across the La Luna Rosé, which is a great addition to the range.
Made from 100% shiraz, this wine is a delightful, bright, watermelon pink with a fruity nose of crunchy red plum, raspberry, a sprinkling of rosewater and spicy pink peppercorns.
On the palate the wine is bone dry with juicy berry and cherry fruit, tangy acid and a fresh crisp finish.
Drink this on a warm evening, chilled, with grilled tuna steaks, white bean truffle mash and a rocket salad. Heaven!
